Overview
Each of our programs prepares our students to take a certification exam after graduation. Depending on the program, students will take their exams through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).

Students enrolled in our EKG Technician or Tech in Surgery programs can take their NCCT Certification Exams at Altamont Healthcare. You must register for your test date at least 14 days in advance. If you arrive late to your test, you will not be allowed entry.
CBSPD Testing Process
Zenith Career Services (ZCS) is the first PSI/ATLAS testing site in Stockton, CA. It is located directly next to Altamont Healthcare at 2027 W March Lane Suite 2. Altamont Healthcare students are encouraged to take their SPD and ERT exams at ZCS for the next testing window. Click here for the CBSPD test dates.
The Central Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution hosts the certification exam for the following programs:
- Sterile Processing and Distribution (SPD) Technician
- Endoscope Reprocessing Technician (ERT)
The exam fee is $128 for each exam plus any convenience fees that may apply. Other test sites may charge their own sitting fee on the day of the exam. Test dates and test sites can be found at the CBSPD website.
NCCT Testing Process
Zenith Career Services locations in Stockton and Bakersfield are both certified NCCT testing sites. Students that take the exam through us will not need to pay a sitting fee. You can apply for your NCCT exam at the NCCT website.
The National Center for Competency Testing hosts the certification exams for the following programs:
The fee for the EKG Technician Exam is $119. The fee for the Surgical Technologist Exam is $199. Test candidates can take the NCCT exam a total of 4 times.
What happens if I fail my certification exam?
The CBSPD exam can be taken as many times as needed, but test candidates cannot take an exam more than once per testing period. There are four CBSPD testing periods that you can find here.
The NCCT exams for EKG/ECG Technicians and Tech in Surgery (TS-C) can be taken a total of 4 times. If you do not pass the exam on your second attempt, you must wait 1 month to retake your exam. If you do not pass the exam on your third attempt, you must wait 1 year since your previous attempt to retake your exam. If you cannot pass the exam on the fourth attempt, you will not be allowed to retake the exam again.
